Mastic gum

Mastic is a resin obtained from the mastic tree. It is used in Turkish and Greek cuisine and also in medicine. Its name comes from Chios Island, where it is traditionally produced. Mastic gum, which is actually liquid, is dried in the sun and turned into hard and dispersed translucent droplets. When chewed in the mouth, it softens and acquires a matte bright white color. Although it has a bitter taste at first, when chewed for a while, it gives a freshness to the mouth that resembles the smell of pine.
