Allspice

Allspice seed is a seed obtained from the dried flowers of an evergreen tree from the Myrtle family. Its homeland is the West Indies and America. Seeds are collected from well-ripened flowers, dried and ground. Allspice is used as a spice in various dishes. Its taste resembles a spice mixture. It has a taste similar to a mixture of cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. It is used in soups, meat dishes and pilafs. It is also used to flavor pickles, preserves, cakes and biscuits, puddings and spicy jellies. It gives a nice taste and pleasant smell to the foods it is used in.
